The 2025 PGA Championship will once again be a Block party.

Michael Block, the club pro who electrified the golf world at the 2023 PGA at Oak Hill, has qualified again for the year’s second major championship. The 48-year-old snagged one of 20 available spots at the PGA Professional Championship by finishing T-3 in the four-day event at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

“The goal this week was to kind of show my kid [caddie Ethan] the nuances of playing golf, and I think I did,” the head pro at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club said. “Keep it in the fairway off the tee. Hit the green. If you miss the green, get up and down, make a conservative chip, and then be a decent putter. I think I showed him a good way to do it. And if I finish third, fourth or fifth, or whatever it is, as long as I’m in the top 20, I’m going to Quail Hollow and I’m very happy.”

Block finished T-15 at Oak Hill in 2023, a performance that included a Sunday slam-dunk hole-in-one and an incredible, clutch up-and-down on the 72nd hole to qualify for the following year’s PGA Championship. Surprisingly, his Oak Hill finish is the only time he’s made the cut in six PGA starts.

The 2025 PGA Professional Championship also featured a record-breaking performance from Tyler Collet. The assistant pro at John’s Island Club shot 15 under to win by 10 shots.

“I can tell you I did not sleep well last night,” Collet said. “After I made the birdies on seven and eight and I saw the leaderboard on nine green, I took a sigh of relief a little bit. I didn’t change my mindset at all, but my heart started to beat a little slower. I was trying to just cruise in to be honest.”

Collet will be making his fourth PGA Championship start in a couple weeks, but both he and Block have a ways to go to catch up with Bob Sowards. With a T-15 finish, the 56-year-old qualified for the 12th time, tying the record for appearances in the tournament by PGA of America golf professionals.

Michael Kartrude, the lead assistant pro at The Bear’s Club, won a four-way playoff for the 20th and final spot. The 2025 PGA Championship will be played at Quail Hollow May 15-18.
