Ordinarily a prestigious event on the PGA Tour’s West Coast swing, the Farmers Insurance Open has been a mess this year. Players have withdrawn in droves, stretching the list of alternates to its breaking point. Some have speculated the chief cause of this exodus is the relocation of next week’s Genesis Invitational to Torrey Pines South—the same course that hosts the Farmers Insurance Open—due to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. But no matter the reason, you won’t find SoCal native Max Homa opting out.

On Wednesday, Homa showed up to the Farmers Insurance Open exactly as planned, and instead of viewing the deadly wildfires as an inconvenience to golf, Homa saw golf as an opportunity to raise awareness for the wildfires, specifically the brave men and women of the Los Angeles Fire Department, who have been battling the flames for over two weeks. Check it out.

This a stand-up move from Homa, who was born in raised in Burbank, a few short miles from where the Pacific Palisades inferno initially began. He’s not the only pro to show their support—L.A. native Sahith Theegala also pledged $100 per birdie and $250 per eagle at the Sony Open toward wildfire relief efforts—but it’s still cool to see Homa repping the LAFD in PGA Tour competition. In fact, we’d love to see a limited LAFD collection from Lululemon and Cobra Puma Golf, Homa’s apparel and footwear sponsors, with proceeds going to the LAFD and victims of the wildfires.

In the meantime, if you would like to follow in Homa and Theegala’s footsteps, head to over Los Angeles County’s Funding & Resource Portal, which features information on the various ways you can aid wildfire relief and recovery efforts in the area.
