As reported by Connecticut television station WTNH, the incident happened on Thursday in the US. The station reported that the man was between 40 and 50 years old and was a contractor employed by Eastern Land Management. Pronounced dead at the scene, the man came into contact with the live electrical line after a falling tree knocked it down.

United Illuminating, the area’s electricity provider, said in a statement: “Our deepest sympathies are with those impacted by the tragic accident at the Yale Golf Course yesterday evening. We are committed to working closely with city officials and others as they continue their investigations into the incident.”

The Yale Golf Course has been closed since September 2023 and is expected to re-open in 2026 after undergoing an extensive, $US25 million renovation by Hanse, one of the most sought-after architects in golf.

Next year mark’s the 100th anniversary for the course, which was designed by Charles Blair (CB) Macdonald and Seth Raynor. Among the notable events it has hosted are the 1952 and 1988 US Junior Amateurs and six NCAA regionals, the last in 2022.
