With 2025 being the 25-year anniversary of Tiger Woods’ historic 2000 season, the tributes continue to come, including from us. But no one honored Woods in a better—and more entertaining—way than Johnson Wagner.
The three-time PGA Tour winner turned Golf Channel analyst has been on a historic heater of his own in the last year-plus when it comes to recreating important shots from big tournaments. But this past week, he raised the bar by going on a road trip to try some of Tiger’s famous moments from 2000. What a fun idea! And Wagner fared pretty well!

Wagner’s trip included him attempting Woods’ hole-out eagle on Pebble Beach’s 15th during his seven-shot comeback at the 2000 AT&T (he found the green), his epic fairway bunker shot on the 72nd hole of the 2000 Canadian Open (again, he found the green), and his amazing approach in the dark at Firesone (another green in regulation). But his best effort came on Sunday at Valhalla, the site of Woods’ memorable playoff win over Bob May at the 2000 PGA Championship that gave him a third consecutive major title (He’d win the 2001 Masters as well to cap the “Tiger Slam”).
Wagner tried Tiger’s famous birdie putt on the first hole of that playoff. And as golf fans know, it wasn’t just clutch, but it had as much flair as any putt in golf history given that Woods went after it while pointing before his golf ball had even dropped in the hole. Anyway, here’s Johnson Wagner’s version 25 years later:

Amazing. Give that man a raise!
Or, given how well he’s still able to pull off these shots, Wagner could consider going on the road even more with a PGA Tour return. Just saying. The dude still has some serious game. And golf fans look forward to seeing what he has in store this week at Quail Hollow.
