All across America, men and women are firing up the grills, putting up the volleyball nets and slathering on the sunscreen. July 4th is mere hours away and summer is in full swing. But don’t take our word for it. Just ask Joe Buck and Jim Nantz.
On Wednesday, the legendary sportscasters checked in from a family golf outing at El Dorado Golf and Beach Club in Cabo. Buck provided the play-by-play, introducing their playing partners Blake Buck (his son) and “Jame-O” (Nantz’s son Jameson), while the elder Nantz provided the color commentary, issuing one of the silkiest “hello friends” you’ll ever hear. If you’re a Nantz fan (and come on, who isn’t?), you’ll definitely want to check this one out.
Rough day in Mexico!!! This is where @NFLonCBS and @ESPNNFL come together in the name of family. What a day. Blake’s first 9 holes with the Nantz boys pic.twitter.com/ywF976SFcd

A true master at work. Though Nantz is celebrating his 40th(!) anniversary calling golf for CBS this year, he continues to age like fine French cognac. Interestingly, while his catchphrase has remained the same for decades, it has developed different timbres and tenors over the years. We’re most accustomed to his formal “hello friends,” which he reserves for the occasion of the Masters each April. Sometimes, when the leaderboard is tight and the atmosphere is crackling with electricity, we even get an anticipatory “hello friends,” brimming with purpose and possibility. This, however, is even rarer. This is the Jimmy Buffett of “hello friends.” This is the summer vacation “hello friends” and, although looser than his ordinary delivery, it somehow manages to hit like a frozen mezcalita on an empty stomach.
So join us as we take vacation Jimbo’s vibe with us into the holiday weekend. If the burgers get a little burnt, the dog freaks out about the fireworks and one of the kids takes a cornhole bean bag to the eye, don’t stress. Just take a deep breath and repeat after Jim:
“Helloooo friends.”
