At PGA National in February, Jake Knapp came inches from making PGA Tour history when he missed an eagle putt on the 18th hole that would have tied Jim Furyk’s single-round scoring mark of 58. As it was, Knapp tapped in for 59, just the 15th such score in the tour’s history.
The 31-year-old’s incredible round made waves across golf, drawing more attention to the opening round of the Cognizant Classic than perhaps ever before. That was good news for Knapp and the PGA Tour, but less so for Knapp’s girlfriend Makena White, who shared a hilarious story on Monday about how her boyfriend’s headline-making feat got her in a bit of hot water at work. Check it out.
My (previously very private) relationship was hard launched on national television at the 2024 Mexico Open.
A year later I got outed playing hooky from work on a Thursday cause that same bf shot 59 & photos of us cellying were all over the internet.

As White tells it, that remarkable sub-60 round wasn’t the only time her boyfriend’s career milestones had unintended effects. When Knapp broke through for his first win at the Mexico Open in 2024, White found her previously private relationship plastered all over the front page of the sports world. That cat was well out of the bag by the time this winter’s Cognizant Classic rolled around, but she still had some explaining to do at work after she was seen celebrating Knapp’s 59 when she was supposed to be logged on. Whoops …
The good news is that White wasn’t the first (and certainly won’t be the last) person to get a strongly worded HR email for being on the golf course when they were supposed to be working. In fact, you might even say it’s a rite of passage. So welcome to the club, Makena. Around here, we look out for our own.
