You get to meet a lot of interesting people and go to a lot of cool places and do a lot of cool things as a high-level professional golfer. But six-time PGA Tour winner Hunter Mahan never thought his profession would lead him to the red carpet for the premiere of “Happy Gilmore 2,” which he had a rather large role in.

“Every day it was like, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing here,” Mahan said on this week’s episode of The Loop podcast.

“Here” was a movie set in New Jersey, where Mahan spent six weeks as Adam Sandler’s body / swing double. Turns out, perfecting the famous Happy Gilmore swing is a lot harder than it looks, particularly around the greens.

“The hardest thing was I had to hit some bunker shots,” Mahan said. “Like short-sided bunker shots. And I’m like, I have no chance.”

If you’re wondering why Sandler needed a body double, it’s because he wrote the movie, produced the movie and starred in the movie, meaning he couldn’t be in all places at once as they shot the film. Enter Mahan, who got a vague call from his agent one day about being a part of the sequel to one of the greatest golf movies ever and jumped at the opportunity.

Mahan gave us all the great behind-the-scenes details during our full chat. Plus, we got into some fun Ryder Cup discourse with the three-time Ryder Cupper. Please, have a listen below, and like and subscribe to The Loop wherever you get your podcasts.
