It’s called the Truist Championship for the first time. It was the Wells Fargo Championship last year. This year the event is a Philadelphia Cricket Club. Last year it was at Quail Hollow Club. Last year Rory McIlroy won. This year, we’ll see.
The event moved courses this year because the PGA Championship is at Quail Hollow next week. Those playing in the signature event will play for the customary $20 million purse with the winner taking home $3.6 million. There is not a cut.
Nine of the top 10 players in the world are in the field, highlighted by McIlroy, a three-time winner this year including the Players and the Masters. The one missing? Scottie Scheffler, winner of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week, his first victory of the year. Scheffler is taking this week off because there is a long string of events he’d like to play over the next month and this was the only realistic time for him to take a breather. He also said last year that his major prep this year would likely include a week off before each of the four.

All eyes will be on McIlroy, of course. As the Masters champion, the most recent player to complete the career Grand Slam, defending champion and the second major of the year on the horizon—there are a lot of expectations.
Filling out the top 10 this week: Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, Hideki Matsuyama, Russell Henley, Viktor Hovland and Maverick McNealy. Thomas is playing for the first time since his win at the RBC Heritage.
Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland and Keith Mitchell are sponsor exemptions.
Here is what each player will make this week in Philadelphia. Check back here Sunday after play is complete for updates.
