The tour is back at Jack Nicklaus’ place with the top players in the world playing in another signature event, the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Ohio. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion and back to attempt to win his third event of the year, following the Byron Nelson and PGA Championship. He tied for fourth place last week at Colonial.

As is custom with the 72-player event, the purse if $20 million with the winner taking home $4 million. There will be a cut to the low 50 players and ties.

Scheffler is looking to be the first player to repeat at the Memorial since Tiger Woods won three straight from 1999-2001. In his last three starts here he’s finished T-3, third, win.

Collin Morikawa, ranked No. 4 in the world, was the runner up to Scheffler and is back after a T-50 at the PGA Championship. In fact, he’s finished second place twice at the Memorial. Of those in the top 10 eligible to play this week, Rory McIlroy is not here, opting to sit out his third signature event this year because he’s playing the next three consecutive weeks. (Here’s what Jack Nicklaus had to say about it on Wednesday.)

Justin Thomas (5), Ludvig Aberg (6), Hideki Matsuyama (7), Russell Henley (8) and Sepp Straka (9) are here. LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau is ranked 10th in the world and not eligible to play.

Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Brandt Snedeker and Matt Kuchar are sponsor invites. It’s the fifth consecutive week that Spieth is playing. He’s finished fourth, T-34, missed cup, T-36 respectively.

The RBC Canadian Open and the U.S. Open at Oakmont are the next two events.
