This year’s Mizuho Americas Open, the third playing of it, has a big task on its hands after the first two years at Liberty National, overlooking the Statue of Liberty and New York City.
In the inaugural playing in 2023, Rose Zhang, playing in her first professional event won. Last year it was World No. 1 Nelly Korda who won her sixth title of the year and sixth in the previous seven events after winning five straight at one point.
Both those players, Zhang and Korda, are in the field again this year and part of the group of players chasing the $450,000 first-place prize from the overall $3 million purse. Korda hasn’t won yet this year but did start the year with consecutive top-10 finishes. Zhang had an issue with her neck and took the last month off to rehab. She’s only played three times this year.
Nos. 2-5 in the world, Jeeno Thitikul, Lydia Ko, Ruoning Yin and last week’s winner, Haeran Ryu, are all competing too.
