Scottie Scheffler is here and that’s the story this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge at heralded Colonial Country Club. While it could’ve been just as easy for him to rest following an exhausting week, and win, at the PGA Championship last week, he’s in Fort Worth looking to win his third consecutive event. He won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, also in Texas, two weeks before the PGA.

Also impressive is that Scheffler opted to miss the Truist Championship, a signature event, so that he would be able to play this week, when most of the other tops players are taking a rest. He’s always been partial to the events in his home state.

Scheffler leads the field playing for the $9.5 million purse. The winner will take home $1.71 million for a victory.

Meanwhile, Hideki Matsuyama (7) is the only other top-10 player in the world in the field. He missed the cut last week at the PGA Championship, ending the longest streak on the tour. Maverick McNealy (11), Tommy Fleetwood (14), Harris English (17), Robert MacIntyre (23), Brian Harman (24) and Daniel Berger (25) are all inside the top 25.

Among the sponsor exemptions playing are Blades Brown, who just turned 18, Neal Shipley, Danny Willett and Michael Block.

This is a busy time of year for the top players. Next week is the Memorial Tournament, followed by the Canadian Open and the U.S. Open. The week after Oakmont is another signature event, the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

Here’s the rundown of what each player will earn this week who makes the cut. Check back here Sunday after play is over for updates.
