The LPGA is back in California this week, with the tour stopping at famed Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. The field is playing for a $3.75 million overall purse, with the winner taking home $562,500 for her victory late Sunday.
Last year Aussie Hannah Green outlasted China’s Xiyu Lin in a three-hole playoff.
This year, after three rounds, Green is back in contention to defend her championship. The 27-year-old is looking for her fifth LPGA title and is tied with Grace Kim after 54 holes. The two are at seven-under-par total, although there are a host of others all within three shots. Green won the HSBC Women’s World Championship by a shot early last month.
Nelly Korda, of course, continues to be the talk of the tour, even though she is not in the field this week. After winning her fifth consecutive title and second-career major last week at the Chevron Championship, the LPGA’s top attraction opted to take the week off. She is expected to return to play for her sixth straight title in two weeks at the Cognizant Founders Cup at Upper Monclair Country Club in Clifton, N.Y.
