LIV Golf is in Saudi Arabia for its third event of the season and the league has a new face competing that has created headlines in golf circles. Anthony Kim, former American superstar from his early days on the PGA Tour, has been lured out of retirement and will strike a ball in competition for the first time in nearly 12 years.

Kim, now 38, won three PGA Tour events during his short career, the last coming in 2010. But he also showed flash and swagger, whether it was during the 2009 Masters when he made 11 birdies during the second round, or while going 2-1-1 during the Ryder Cup in 2008, which the Americans won. Kim will play as an individual for the remainder of the LIV Golf season and is not attached to a team.

Joining Kim at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Jeddah is the usual cast of characters, including Brooks Koepka, who is attempting to win this event for the third consecutive year. He topped Peter Uihlein on the third hole of a playoff in 2022 and then defeated Talor Gooch on the second playoff hole last year. The field of 54 will be competing for the $20 million purse, with the champion taking home $4 million. The winning team will split $3 million.

Joaquin Niemann won the season-opening event in the dark in Mayakoba. He defeated Sergio Garcia on the fourth playoff hole. Dustin Johnson captured the second LIV event of the season, at Las Vegas Country Club.
