This might be the first time this sentence has ever been written, but it’d actually be inconsiderate of you not to try to play Winged Foot. The vaunted course is one of many impressive tee times being auctioned off in a fundraising event for First Tee-Metropolitan New York. There’s also Friar’s Head, Fishers Island, Tree Farm, Bay Hill, Streamsong, Baltrusol, Bayonne, The Avalon Club, Sleepy Hollow … the list goes on and on. And believe it or not, we (sometimes) have a word count.
This year’s silent auction is about five times the size of last year’s auction, and this annual charity event often raises between $250,000 to $300,000 for the Big Apple chapter. The money goes toward helping out New York tweens and teens build for the future, whether it be for individual tutoring, assistance in gaining admission into top high schools or to discover a life-long connection with the game of golf.
The auction ends on Monday, May 19, at 10 p.m., with the rounds ranging from $750 to $7,500. Well, those are the prices as we publish this. There’s also an opportunity to become a Dormie Network member, which gives you a membership to six nationally ranked courses across the country, plus all the usual luxuries.

You can see everything up for auction here. If you’re not yet in golf shape—trust us, we get it—non-golf experiences are being offered up as well, from NASCAR Pit Passes to Knicks tickets to a beautiful needlepoint ornament. Or maybe, just maybe, you can bring your brand-new needlepoint ornament to Tree Farm for a Stay & Play multiple-round extravaganza. That’s the good-luck charm you need!
Next week is also the start of a First Tee campaign centered on celebrating coaches “who are game changers in their communities.” A host of alumni will stop by the upcoming Charles Schwab Challenge to honor coaches across all sports. Plus, there will be fundraisers and golf marathons across the United States.
“Today’s kids and teens are facing new challenges, and parents are looking for character-building programs because they know strength of character is essential for overcoming obstacles,” said First Tee CEO Greg McLaughlin. “For nearly 30 years, our dedicated and trained coaches have set First Tee apart because we have developed a training system built on research-proven methods of positive youth development. We are excited to celebrate their contributions and raise awareness for their work during First Tee Week.”
So, look through the auction and see if there’s a tee time that piques your fancy. For the kids, for the coaches and also for you. Hit some golf balls and change some lives. But in a positive way this time.
