The 2025 Travelers Championship is quickly turning into the greatest football-golf crossover in history.
On Tuesday, the PGA Tour announced NFL executive Brian Rolapp—long expected to be Roger Goodell’s successor as commissioner—as it’s new CEO. And on Wednesday, ESPN announced that a guy with just about more NFL juice than anyone will be part of Thursday’s tournament coverage.

We’re talking about Adam Schefter, ESPN’s senior NFL insider and one of the great reporters—and cell phone users—of our time. The man who subsists on scoops. A sports media legend. And now he’s trying his hand at golf.
According to the Worldwide Leader, Schefter will make his debut as an on-course reporter during Thursday’s opening round coverage at TPC River Highlands on PGA Tour Live. And he’s drawn a pretty plum assignment in following around reigning Masters champ Rory McIlroy and U.S. Ryder Cup captain and New England fan favorite Keegan Bradley.
Why is Schefter doing this? Well, ESPN’s headquarters are located in nearby Bristol, Conn. so it’s a bit of an ESPN party this week at the Travelers. And, obviously, he’s got (slightly more) time on his hands with the NFL being in its offseason. And maybe ESPN is really making him work for that contract.
Regardless, Adam Schefter will be covering golf this week. But don’t worry, NFL fans, he’ll be back soon. We think.
