Popular DP World Tour pro Mike Lorenzo-Vera played the final round of his professional career overnight (Australian time). And he had some special company with him.
The 40-year-old Frenchman announced his retirement in April due to ongoing mental health struggles, but planned to play one final event, this week’s Omega European Masters. The tournament in Switzerland holds a significant spot in his heart because it was there a decade ago when he found out his father had died.

Lorenzo-Vera had previously taken a break from the game last year, growing weary of the travelling lifestyle and pressure of pro golf. He called this the “perfect” setting for his farewell.
“I could have said my wrist hurts, but it was just the brain that was hurting,” he told europeantour.com. “It’s important [to talk], because I received a lot of messages saying what I said was what they were living. It just gives the advice to maybe speak to someone.”
Lorenzo-Vera is also retiring to spend more time with his family, and his two kids, in a sweet moment, joined him for a walk down his final hole of the second round in Switzerland.

Minutes later, Lorenzo-Vera finished off his two days with a par. He was then embraced by his close friends and playing partners Alexander Levy and Marcel Siem before exiting the 18th green with his children.

Lorenzo-Vera has been a pro for 20 years, making 285 starts on the DP World Tour, including five career runner-up finishes. His best finish in a major championship was T-16 at the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black.
