The U.S. Open (the other one) is officially underway in Flushing, Queens and the talk of the town has been Carlos Alcaraz’s new look. In a move straight out of the Andre Agassi playbook, Alcaraz cut off both his hair and sleeves, transforming himself into a tennis bad boy overnight. The look wasn’t a hit with everyone—Frances Tiafoe called it “horrible”—but at least Rory McIlroy, in attendance after a controversial haircut of his own this year, approved.

“Just got a haircut that I struggled with,” Alcaraz told McIlroy while chatting during practice. “But I mean I had to start fresh.”

“Yeah good!” McIlroy replied. “I like it!”

That wasn’t all Alcaraz showed off to McIlroy, however. After his first-round victory over American Reilly Opelka, Alcaraz celebrated by demonstrating his golf swing to McIlroy, who was watching on above. Check it out.

Honestly, Alcaraz’s swing might be better than his haircut, but when it comes to follicles (or lack thereof), every man needs to, er, swing his own swing.

As for the budding bromance between the two World No. 2s, Alcaraz spoke about his admiration for McIlroy after the match, saying he watched Rory clinch his coveted green jacket this spring while celebrating his own win at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Clearly, the pair seem to share a lot of common ground, and we’d love to see them tee it up together at a pro-am in the future. Hair or no hair, Pebble Beach wouldn’t stand a chance.
