This was not the one-handed Rory McIlroy swipe at a tee marker that went viral a couple of weeks ago during the US Open. That was a layup compared to Brooks Koepka’s tantrum on Friday.

The five-time major winner, incensed after a bad drive on the ninth hole and apparently not feeling well, slammed his driver to the turf and then took a Happy Gilmore swing in the first round of LIV Golf Dallas.

As seen on video, the flying tee marker disappears near fans who were standing close by at the ropes at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas. There were no reports of any injuries.

Koepka, who already was six-over at the time, bogeyed that hole, along with the 10th and 13th, and then withdrew on the 14th after completing eight holes in LIV’s shotgun format.

Koepka’s team, Smash GC, posted on X that he was suffering from an illness. And in a situation unique to LIV because of its team play, Koepka was subbed in for the rest of the round by reserve Luis Carrera.

For comparison, here’s McIlroy’s smash:

With only two top-10s in LIV this season, along with missed cuts in the Masters and PGA Championship (before finishing T-12 in the US Open), Koepka has expressed frustrations about his play in 2025.

“From the first weekend in April until about [the beginning of June], you didn’t want to be around me,” Koepka said after the first round of the US Open. “It drove me nuts. It ate at me. I haven’t been happy. It’s been very irritating.”

Something tells us he might still be irritated.
