Bryson DeChambeau is the longest hitter in the field at this week’s Open Championship, but he managed to hit the shortest shot on Day 1 at Royal Portrush.
The two-time major champ found himself in a tough spot in the high grass on No.4 during his opening round. And he wound up completely whiffing on his next shot. Yep, whiffing.

At least, that’s what it looked like on TV. It’s hard to tell exactly with Portrush’s gnarly native grass. Anyway, have a look as DeChambeau stares at his golf ball in disbelief for a moment before taking a second swing hack at it – and only managing to move his ball slightly farther as it dribbles down the hill.

Ouch. Earlier in the week, Bryson said he was hopeful about figuring out how to play better in the wind, however, it appears his fescue calculations still need a bit of work.
DeChambeau did recover from there, getting up and down to at least save double-bogey. But that’s a tough way to get your tournament started.
