From a heroic bunker shot to bladed chips to an impressive walk down memory lane to throwing golf balls, we’ve seen everything from Johnson Wagner over the past 16 months. At least, we thought we had.
The Golf Channel analyst was back playing his role as chief recreator on Wednesday at the British Open, explaining what players will face on Royal Portrush’s treacherous par-3 16th hole, known as CALAMITY CORNER. And this time, it was the fans watching who were actually in danger.

Wagner starts the clip by showing where a lot of tee shots will end up, short and right, leaving a blind shot from a steep bank. He then attempts a shot from there and absolutely SKULLS it over the green and into the grandstand.
“Of all the shots I’ve hit in my days, I think that one is probably the most embarrassing,” Wagner says with a sheepish grin. “I finally had a crowd, and I physically skulled it into the grandstand.”
After doing another demonstration to the left of the green, the former PGA Tour pro signed off to make sure everyone was OK.
“I gotta go apologize to the crowd,” Wagner says before the camera cuts to the Live From guys cracking up. Have a look at the entire clip that shows the skull and Wagner interacting with the crowd after the wild segment:

We’re glad to see no one got hurt. But that’s certainly going to hurt Wagner’s strokes gained stats on these shots that our Luke Kerr-Dineen put together ahead of the U.S. Open.
Anyway, if you’re actually playing in the British Open this week, don’t try to recreate what Wagner did.
