Two of Australian golf’s most respected administrators have been recognised in the Australia Day 2026 Honours List, with Alexander “Sandy” Dawson and Andrew “Langers” Langford-Jones awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for their service to the sport.
Sandy Dawson OAM: A lifetime of club leadership and international ambassadorship
Known widely across Australian golf circles as “Sandy” Dawson, the New South Wales-based administrator has been a prominent club leader and an influential ambassador for the sport.
Among his most notable contributions, Dawson made history as only the second Australian to serve as captain of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, taking up the role in 2013-2014. In that capacity, he represented the R&A and supported its work in developing golf around the world, a rare honour that reflects his standing within the international game.
In Australia, Dawson is closely associated with Royal Sydney Golf Club, where he has held senior leadership roles including captain and later president, contributing to the ongoing strength and stewardship of one of the nation’s most significant clubs. A former Australian Universities champion and long-time member of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (since 1974), Dawson has helped advance the sport through governance, representation and service.
Andrew Langford-Jones OAM: A driving force behind tournament delivery and innovation
A highly regarded rules official, Langford-Jones has dedicated decades to the delivery and evolution of professional golf events in Australia and around the world, earning a reputation for meticulous standards, calm leadership and an unwavering commitment to the integrity of competition.
As a long-time rules official and senior tournament official, Langford-Jones is highly respected by players and officials worldwide and has been central to the planning and running of major professional tournaments, overseeing the elements that directly shape the player and fan experience, from rules and scoring to registration, volunteer operations, television co-ordination and field management.
He has also been recognised as a key contributor to innovation in Australian tournament golf, including helping drive new event concepts designed to broaden appeal and modernise formats. His work on events such as the Surf Coast Knockout at The Sands Torquay and involvement in the development of the World Super 6 concept reflected a focus on keeping elite competition compelling for contemporary audiences while respecting the traditions of the sport.

PGA of Australia chief executive Gavin Kirkman said Langford-Jones’ honour acknowledges a career spent elevating tournament delivery and strengthening the game’s professional ecosystem.

Recipients will attend investiture ceremonies at Government House in their respective state or territory in coming months to receive the insignia of their award.
