Nothing gold can stay.
Joel Dahmen and Geno Bonnalie, perhaps the most lovable player-caddie duo in professional golf, have split, per a report from Matt Gannon. The news was later confirmed by Skratch’s Dan Rapaport, who spoke to Dahmen on Monday.
“It was time. We had a great run,” Dahmen said.

As of now it’s unclear who will be caddieing for Dahmen going forward, though he will need to find a replacement quickly. The one-time PGA Tour winner is in the field at this week’s Barracuda Championship, the tour’s opposite field event. As for Bonnalie, he has only ever caddied for Dahmen, spending 10 seasons on his bag. They started on the Korn Ferry Tour together in 2015, where they spent two seasons, and they’ve been on the PGA Tour together ever since.
It’s particularly shocking given how far the duo’s relationship goes back, which was well-documented in a Season 2 episode of Netflix’s “Full Swing.” It was a loving, brotherly-like relationship that seemed as though it would never end.
Unfortunately, though, all good things must, especially in the player-caddie world. This is certainly not the first high-profile split of this PGA Tour season. Max Homa and Joe Greiner agreed to break up just before the Masters in April, then Collin Morikawa and his longtime looper, J.J. Jakovac, split up not long after (Morikawa then hired Greiner, a partnership that lasted all of five tournaments). On Monday, the same day the Dahmen-Bonnalie news broke, Tom Kim and Paul Tesori went their separate ways, too.
