Adrien Dumont de Chassart made four early birdies Thursday at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open then made bogey on the 15th hole at Crestview Country Club, his sixth hole of the opening round. He was three under par at the time.

Three hours later he tapped in for par on the last hole, the ninth, to shoot 11-under 59, the Korn Ferry Tour’s 14th sub-60 round. Dumont de Chassart is four shots ahead of S.Y. Noh, Johnny Keefer, James Nicholas and Sandy Scott, who all shot 63.

“I hit the driver very well today,” the 25-year-old from Belgium said. “When I birdied Hole 3 to go to seven under, that’s when I started thinking about 59. It’s a par 70, let’s keep it going.”

He did. In fact, he was actually eight under after birdie on the third hole, not seven as he suggested. The University of Illinois product made 12 birdies and the lone bogey for his 59. He birdied four of his first five holes, then made seven in eight holes—Nos. 16, 17 and Nos. 1-5. Dumont de Chassart parred his 15th and 16th holes, missing a “shorty” for birdie, then made one last birdie on the eighth hole, his penultimate hole. Par on the last gave him the 11-under-par 59.

Cristobal Del Solar has the lowest score in tour history, shooting 57 in the first round of the 2024 Astara Golf Championship in Colombia. Frankie Capan III (2024) and Stephan Jaeger (2016) have both shot 58. There have now been 11 59s on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Dumont de Chassart has one Korn Ferry Tour victory to his credit, coming two years ago. In this same Kansas Wichita Open, he lost in a playoff to Ricky Castillo two years ago.
