As glorious as the potential Phil Mickelson fairytale would be this week at Winged Foot, every experienced punter knows that betting on a sports fairytale rarely yields a return on your investment. That’s not to say Mickelson can’t win, but at 50 years old and on a course that will prioritise hitting the fairway off the tee, there are much better options to use your capital on, even ones at 100-to-1 odds like Lefty (though that didn’t stop this person).
But it’s going to be damn near impossible not to sprinkle at least a few bucks on the five-time Major winner to complete the career grand slam in New York. Especially after watching this latest song parody from Sam Harrop, who has become a Golf Twitter sensation with his incredible pipes and songwriting abilities (see here, here and here for examples).
Harrop’s latest is an ode to Lefty, played to the tune of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”. If this doesn’t make you want to back up the cash truck on Mickelson to win, you are dead inside, plain and simple:

Beautifully done. Really peaked at “this time Ogilvy’s not there to ruin it all”, followed by “quick before they roll back the ball”. Not only can Harrop sing and write, but he knows the game as well as anybody. Like any internet sensation, an act like this runs the risk of growing tired or stale. That could not be further from the case with Harrop, who outdoes himself every time he sits down at the piano. Even Mickelson is taking notice:
