A Solheim Cup that other than the initial session on Friday morning could not have been closer accordingly finished in a 14-14 tie that allowed the defending champion Team Europe to retain the cup at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain.

Team USA jumped to a 4-0 lead on Friday morning, but by Saturday evening the teams were tied, 8-8. They also split the Sunday singles, with Spain’s own Carlota Ciganda delivering the deciding point, a 2 and 1 victory over Nelly Korda.

Each team won two of the first four singles matches, with both the U.S. and Europe leading four of the remaining eight matches, setting up a competition that was not decided until Ciganda birdied the 16th and 17th holes to prevail.

Europe has now held the Solheim Cup in three straight competitiions, winning in both 2019 and 2021. The U.S. has not prevailed since 2017.
