What makes a great iron fitting? According to Titleist Korn Ferry Tour Manager of Clubs Dino Antonucci, it starts with understanding the player before looking at the numbers.
Walking through a T-Series iron fitting, Antonucci explained that one of the biggest trends on professional tours is the use of blended iron sets, allowing players to optimise ball flight throughout the bag.
Central to every fitting is what Titleist calls the “three D’s” — distance control, dispersion control and descent angle.
Antonucci stressed that fitting is important for every golfer, whether they are making changes to their swing or buying clubs for the first time. Matching equipment to the player helps build confidence and ensures the clubs perform as intended.
Throughout the fitting, he focused on how the golfer’s launch, spin and dispersion worked together rather than relying on a single data point.
Rather than changing multiple components at once, Antonucci preferred to begin with a shaft similar to the player’s current setup before testing different iron heads. This makes it easier to identify which changes are delivering positive results.
Testing eventually pointed towards a T150, which delivered tighter dispersion, improved descent angle and increased confidence while maintaining the player’s preferred look at address.
Antonucci also explained that the consistent appearance across the T-Series range is intentional, allowing golfers to blend models throughout the set while maintaining visual continuity.
By the end of the session, the combination of improved launch, spin and confidence resulted in higher, longer shots with tighter dispersion, reinforcing the value of a professional iron fitting.
