A hail storm in Edmond, Ok., earlier this week wreaked havoc on Rose Creek Golf Club, which was set to host its annual member-guest starting on Thursday. Damage to all 18 greens made the golf course nearly unplayable, pushing back the start of the club’s most long-awaited tournament each year.
Then, the members stepped in, even some who weren’t even competing in the event. Over 200 volunteers showed up on Wednesday after Tuesday’s storm and they went to work, hand-repairing divot after divot on every single green to get the golf course ready to start the member-guest on team. The work began at 8:15 a.m. and ended around 1:30 p.m.

“Not everyone who came out was playing in the event,” a Rose Creek representative said Thursday. “We just have some great members who wanted to help keep the course pretty. They know what it takes.”
Images of the damage the hail caused made the rounds on social media on Wednesday, including images and videos of the volunteer efforts. The before and after pictures are downright incredible:

We live in a selfish, what-can-you-do-for-me-in-return time in 2024, but this is the antithesis of that. And yes, we understand these are first-world problems, but a bunch of people coming together to fix something out of the goodness of their hearts will always be cool.Â
Also cool? According to the club, one of the members works with a vendor who was able to gift everyone who came out to volunteer a pair of Oklahoma City Thunder tickets for the upcoming NBA season. Great stuff all around.Â
