AUGUSTA, Ga. — Max Homa is absolutely grinding with a capital G.
The six-time PGA Tour winner hit an astounding 247 shots at the tournament practice facility on Tuesday at the Masters, the second-most of any of the 95 players in the field, according to the practice range data on Masters.com. The only player who hit more? Bryson DeChambeau, who apparently hit 393, a number that seems unbelievable but also very believable for Bryson, who specifically talked about trying to get the right driver head dialed in during his Tuesday presser.

As for Homa, well, he’s just trying to get anything dialed in:

This of course makes sense when you consider Homa’s record in 2025, which features five missed cuts, a W/D, a T-53 and a T-26 (Sentry) in eight starts. His last top 10 on the PGA Tour came last May at the Wells Fargo Championship. Before that, a T-3 at the Masters a year ago, which must feel more like 10 years ago for Homa right now.
Homa, now infamously, changed from Titleist to Cobra golf clubs in January. He also began making swing changes after going through a mini slump that has now turned into a prolonged one.
“I don’t really know how to explain it,” Homa said Tuesday. “I’ve never really gone through something like this where it’s really good and then I’ll get on a Thursday and doesn’t really feel bad, it just isn’t good.
“Results have been awful. I haven’t putted well this year either. It’s just not helping. But so much attention has been to just the big stuff so that’s been hard.”
Homa insists he’s not far off. No tour pro ever is in their own mind. That’s why they keep showing up week after week.
“I mean it’s not like far off. I hit the ball, when I’m going good on the range or at home I’m hitting it better than I can ever hit it,” he said. “I’m shaping shots better than I ever shaped ’em. Do everything like great. Just still not used to certain misses. Still react to certain lies and things on the course. It’s not like the range. When I get in a rhythm it seems to be the issue is hitting one at a time, waiting in between, different lies, different wind, different pins.
“But been doing everything we can; just hasn’t clicked yet.”
It’s 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday morning and Homa has already added another 104 practice shots to his tally. The search continues.
