Justin Rose made TGL history on Tuesday night. By Wednesday morning, he’d sparked the latest debate on Golf Twitter.

The Ryder Cup star holed a 4-iron from 227 yards for the first albatross in the simulator league’s history. It was a heckuva shot—and a heckuva reaction—from Rose and it helped his Los Angeles Golf Club defeat Jupiter Links Golf Club at the SoFi Center. Have a look:

Golf fans are used to seeing Rose roll in putts from everywhere during the Ryder Cup, but that 4-iron was about as straight as it gets. That thing was an absolute laser.
Anyway, Rose revealed after that it was the first albatross of his life. Somewhat surprising considering all the (great) golf he’s played in his career. But it didn’t take long for people to start questioning whether it should really count. Like Bunkered’s Michael McEwan:
I love Justin Rose. He's a top, top man.
But we're not seriously calling that his "first career albatross", are we?
If so, I've had a dozen or so holes-in-one – many of them at Pebble Beach – and once carded a 56.

It’s a fair question. And judging by the replies, most seem to agree that this shouldn’t really count. And that’s consistent with how most golfers feel about simulator holes-in-one.
HOWEVAH, allow us to stick up for Rose here. This wasn’t done in a simulator in his garage, this was done on the super-sized simulator of the SoFi Center. In front of a crowd. With an even bigger audience watching on ESPN. And he did it under official competition.
Also, consider this stat from Justin Ray:
Before Justin Rose's 225-yard albatross tonight, the longest hole out in @TGL play was 25 yards.

So it’s not like they’ve been holing out left and right at TGL. Anyway, here’s what Rose had to say when asked about it by TSN’s Adam Stanley after:
"To see it disappear is a surreal moment for sure."

“I’m taking it,” Rose said with a grin. “I’m taking it.”
And who are any of us to try to take it away from him. Well done, Justin.
