It’s rare when there’s so much history at a fall event on the PGA Tour but there are two significant headlines this week at the Black Desert Championship, the third of eight fall events this year. For starters, it’s the first time since 1963 that the tour has returned to Utah, playing this week in a course designed on a lava field in Ivins.

Secondly, 65-year-old Jay Don Blake is making his 500th tour star after being given a sponsor invite. Blake last played in a tour even in 2018 and won his only tour title back in 1991. He was born and still lives in St. George and attended Utah State. (Last week 71-year-old Reed Hughes played in the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi.)

Other players in the field with Utah ties are Zac Blair and Patrick Fishburn. They’ll all be playing for the $7.5 million purse. The winner will take home $1.35 million.

A reminder, full status is on the line during this stretch and entry into two early signature events in 2025—the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational. As part of the Aon Next 10, those ranked Nos. 51-60 will play in those two events. Seamus Power, Patrick Rodgers, Harris English and Nick Taylor are all in that category and playing this week. Those from 61-125 will retain full status for next year and Nos. 126-150 will have conditional status. All those players can improve status by playing in PGA Tour Q-School.

Here’s the rundown of what each play will earn who makes the cut this week. Check back here Sunday after play is complete for updates.
