Tension is running high in the final weeks of the 2024 LPGA season. That’s especially so for players outside the top 60 in the Race to the CME Group Tour Championship and trying desperately to get inside the magic number in order to qualify for the finale and have a chance at the $4 million first-place prize money payout.
A Lim Kim was among those heading into this week’s Lotte Championship in Hawaii, the second to last regular season event. The 29-year-old South Korean was ranked 65th on the points list and hoped a good finish at Hoakalei Country Club on Oahu would get the job done.
Well, how about a win instead?
With a final-round four-under 68, including a birdie on the 18th hole, Kim claimed her second career title, finishing with an 18-under 280 total to beat rookie Nataliya Guseva by two strokes and rookie Auston Kim by three.
It was A Lim Kim’s first win since claiming the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open title. With the victory she earned a first-place prize money payout of $450,000, giving her her first “official” $1 million season, in her four-year career, as Kim’s $1 million winner’s check from Champions Golf Club in 2020 didn’t count towards her official career money.
